You have joined a dating site, met someone who seems lovely and arranged to meet. Now the nerves are creeping in. That is completely normal. Here is how to prepare.
Think positive
It is easy to imagine everything that could go wrong. Try to put those thoughts aside. A first date is not your last chance, and it does not have to be “the one”. Treat it like meeting a new friend and simply enjoy the conversation.
Release the tension
A little exercise before you go can work wonders: a brisk walk, a swim or a stretch. If you would rather relax, a warm bath and some favourite music will do the job. Leave yourself plenty of time to get ready so you are not rushed.
Plan ahead
- Choose an easy, relaxed place that is simple to get to.
- Think of a few questions and stories to share, in case of quiet moments.
- Let a friend know where you are going.
When you arrive
Smile, say hello and try to put the other person at ease. Remember they are probably just as nervous as you are.
Whether you are meeting someone at 25 or at 65, the best advice is the same: relax, be yourself and enjoy the evening. For more, read our tips for a perfect first date.
